Valerius de Saedeleer fled Belgium together with his family during WWI and settled in Wales with support of the Davies sister of Gregynog. Until his return to Belgium in 1924, he and his family lived in Rhydyfelin near Aberystwyth. His Welsh landscape paintings show traces of the early Netherlandish tradition.
