Heinz Koppel (1919–1980)
National Museum Cardiff

Heinz Koppel was born into a Jewish family in Berlin. In 1938 he escaped from Prague and settled in south Wales. Having studied art under Martin Bloch in London, he began teaching art in Dowlais in the 1940s. Many of his paintings from this time have been inspired by the local surroundings.
