Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru / The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth
Josef Herman was born into a Jewish family in Warsaw. Via Belgium, he fled to Britain in 1938 and towards the end of WWII he moved to Ystradgynlais, a small mining community in south Wales. Many of the paintings from this time show the daily lives of the people and town.
